Planned Gifts

Susquehanna University has many ways to help you decide which method of giving is best for you. You may choose to include Susquehanna in your will or consider other options, including trusts, charitable gift annuities, life insurance, real estate and personal property, and more. Wills and Bequests
When you make a bequest, your estate is entitled to a charitable deduction for the full fair-market value of your gift. Bequests come in various forms:

General Bequest: With this type of bequest, you leave a specified dollar amount (for example, $10,000) to Susquehanna University.
Specific Bequest: With a specific bequest, you designate a specific asset (for example, a vacation home) to Susquehanna.
Percentage Bequest: With this type of bequest, you may donate a percentage of your estate or a percentage of your residuary estate to the University.
Residuary Bequest: A residuary bequest is used to donate all, or a portion of, your estate after all debts, taxes, expenses, and all other bequests have been paid.
Contingent Bequest: You may name Susquehanna to be your contingent beneficiary in case your primary beneficiaries predecease you.

Sample Bequest Language
Legal advice is essential in drafting a will. Because a will reflects your final wishes, it should be carefully constructed to accomplish exactly what you desire to happen to your assets. The above information is intended, therefore, only to serve as a guideline for you and not as a substitute for professional legal counsel. We urge you to consult with your advisors to find the most appropriate way for you to remember Susquehanna in your will.

Sample Unrestricted Bequest Language
"I give and bequeath to Susquehanna University, a non-profit corporation, headquartered in Selinsgrove, Pennsylvania, the sum of $___ (or ___ percentage of my estate; or the property described herein) for its general purposes."

Sample Specific Bequest Language
"I give and bequest to Susquehanna University, a non-profit corporation, headquartered in Selinsgrove, Pennsylvania, the sum of $___ (or ___ percent of my estate) to be used for (specify purpose). If in the opinion of the Board of Directors of Susquehanna University, the income or principal cannot be used for the purposes described herein, they may use the principal or income or both for a different but related purpose which best serves the intent of this bequest."
